Aligning a hospital logistics solution to conform to user needs

design lead — UX design — UI design

Ascom provides communication and collaboration solutions for healthcare and enterprise organizations.

I was part of their design team for 12 months and worked on a multitude of products. My main challenge was taking a lead position in Ascoms management solution for hospital personnel.

There was a clear disconnect between their current product and actual user needs. A thorough user research including visits and interviews was planned, results were a clear way forward, both planning and design wise to get the user needs and the product aligned.

Sykehuspartner: Maria Berg-Leirvåg, Jo Åse

behavior analysis

In collaboration with Sykehuspartner we shadowed and interviewed our four main user groups on site to make sure we understood the user needs across the board.

processing the information

After the visits I sorted the information into different workflows, making sure we have a clear understanding of the touch points of each of our user groups.

improving the pipeline

Ascoms pipeline did not represent the needs of the users. So I created a clear list of items for a MVP product, and a list of features that would improve the MVP substantially but would not be able to be produced before the clients first deadline.

“Since our last meetings, we now believe that the UX team has accurately pinpointed the real user needs of both ourselves and our staff.”

ConceptS & protoTypes

The final part of the project included prototyping and user testing concepts on a selected group of transporters, coordinators and healthcare professionals.

This was done to discover if the user needs we mapped after our visits were correctly applied in the new product.
